As you walk down Las Vegas Boulevard, you’ll probably notice the young men and ladies with green and brown “gift bags” approaching people; they will probably approach you. Scam Alert: It’s a scam. The bags are not gifts at all, This is an illegal tactic designed to trick you out of money. Don’t fall for it. I’m here to protect you from Vegas Scams.
ITS A SCAM
These folks approach people, mostly ladies and ask “Did you get one yet?” or “Here’s Your Make-Up Ladies.” Their approach and the use of what appears to be a “gift bag” suggests that it is a free offer. So people stop and listen. These scammers then say that the bag contains over $120 worth of make up. They usually distract your brain and thought process by having you try the moisturizer. The moisturizer actually feels nice and while you are agreeing with them that it feels good, they tell you the bag contains over $120 worth of products but you can have it right now for only $20; sometimes they ask $25. Because of the psychological manipulation these people use (free gift, free sample, $120 value for only $20, nice feeling lotion, etc) many tourists whip out a $20 and get ripped-off right there on the spot.
The contents inside the bag have a retail value of just over $8. Yes, I bought a bag and then went to the store and priced the items for you. So, don’t get manipulated by this scam. Save your money. In fact, don’t even stop to talk to these people. It is a waste of time because now you know it isn’t a gift and in fact it is overpriced low quality merchandise.
ITS ILLEGAL
Las Vegas law says that you can make sales/purchases on Las Vegas Boulevard, only at a physical business location. These folks don’t have a physical, legally licensed store or kiosk on the sidewalk and thus they are breaking the law when they sell you a bag. By the way, this law is the reason the legitimate club crawl sales people walk you off the sidewalk and into a legally licensed business which has given them permission to perform sales transactions. For example, if you buy a night club crawl from LA Epic, their salesperson will walk you inside Cabo Wabo Cantina where they have legal permission to complete the sale. These Gift Bag scammers do not operate legally. Yes, they wear a lanyard around their necks attached to an ID badge that looks official. But, selling you a bag on street is illegal. Don’t take part in illegal activities. Don’t reward bad behavior. Don’t Get Scammed.
