Idiots Of The Week April 17, 2017

So you want to bring your kids to Vegas.  Fine, that is your business. Take them to the M&M store; let them see the Fountains of Bellagio, stay at Circus Circus.  But get them off the strip before dark.  And if they are exposed to things you don’t like, then don’t complain–YOU BROUGHT THEM HERE!

Idiots of the Week

This is where you’re children belong after dark in Las Vegas

This week’s idiots of the week award goes to the thousands of parents who chose to bring their minor children and toddlers to Las Vegas for Spring Break and then get offended by what their kids saw on the strip.

Despite what you may have heard in a few idiotic advertisements, Las Vegas Boulevard is not family and child friendly.  This town is all about, gambling, drinking, stripping and sex.  That hasn’t changed and isn’t likely to change.  It is your business if you bring your children to Vegas.  But if you have them out on the strip at night, you surrender your right to complain when they are exposed to the sin for which Sin City is famous.

I actually saw a grown man get in a fight with a strip club promoter wearing a lighted sign this week because the man was offended that his 8-year-old saw the picture on the sign.

The promoters and performers on the strip actually have to pay for a business license to be there.  They are in their legally licensed place of business.  Therefore, you are an idiot if you bring your children to a business to which you don’t want your children exposed and then complain about the fact that business is open and operating.

What do you people expect your children to see in Vegas? Do you expect the Metro Chamber of Commerce and the city to convert Las Vegas Boulevard to Disney’s “Main Street USA”?  Well it isn’t going to happen.  So leave your kids at home or in the hotel or be content with what they see.

Let’s make this simple.  Below is a quick list of what you can expect your children to be exposed to on the Las Vegas Strip.  If you are OK with your kids encountering these things, then bring them.  If not, don’t.  But you don’t have a right to walk your minor children through the sin of Sin City and then complain or attack the sinners.  That is just idiocy.

BRING YOUR KIDS ON LAS VEGAS BOULEVARD AT NIGHT IF…

YOU DON’T MIND YOUR KIDS BEING EXPOSED TO NUDITY

Yes there is nudity and partial nudity on the strip.  There are sometimes bums and other people urinating in public.  There are sometimes people having sex in the bushes along the sidewalk.  Want your kids to see this? Bring ’em on the strip at night.

YOU ARE OK WITH YOUR KIDS BEING IN CLOSE CONTACT WITH PIMPS, HOOKERS, AND DRUG DEALERS

Yes people do drugs on the strip.  Yes prostitutes and pimps are on the strip.  OK with a pimp approaching your 16-year-old daughter?  Bring her on the strip at night.  No we don’t like this activity and the Police work constantly to stop it…but it is still here.

YOU ARE OK WITH YOUR KIDS BEING IN CLOSE CONTACT WITH PEDOPHILES

Yes some of those friendly costumed characters taking pictures with your kids are convicted sex offenders.  Yes one of those muscle bound men lifting women up in the air and taking photos is a convicted sex offender.  Want these folks touching your kids?  Bring ’em on the strip at night.

YOU ARE OK WITH YOUR KIDS HEARING GRAPHIC LANGUAGE AND SEEING VIOLENCE

Yes people say vile things on Las Vegas Boulevard.  Yes, sadly people get drunk and fight and worse.  Cool with having your kids in the middle of all this?  Bring ’em on the strip at night.

I recently read that 1 in every 6 children is abused in their own home.  I haven’t researched and verified this info, but I did notice while walking down the strip at night recently that about 1 in ever 6 groups of people had children on Las Vegas Boulevard at night.  Coincidence?  Probably not.

QUESTIONS TO HELP YOU DECIDE WHETHER YOUR KIDS BELONG ON LAS VEGAS BOULEVARD AFTER DARK

  • Are you children old enough to gamble?

  • Are your children old enough to drink?

  • Are your children old enough to have sex with strangers as they choose?

  • Are your children old enough to make their own decisions about doing drugs?

IF YOU ANSWERED YES TO ALL THESE…

…BRING ‘EM ON THE STRIP AT NIGHT!

IF YOU ANSWERED NO TO ANY OF THESE…

…DON’T BRING ‘EM ON THE STRIP AT NIGHT!

I personally would support a law that makes it a felony to have children under 18 anywhere along Las Vegas Boulevard between Tropicana and the Circus Circus Hotel after dark.  The same law would make it a misdemeanor to have kids over 18 but under 21 in the same area.  But it isn’t up to me.  They are your kids. You choose where to bring them.

But don’t bring them to Sin City and then complain they saw Sin.  That makes you an idiot.
